Bye Bye Bitty

Bitty is taking her last ride tomorrow. I really had hoped she'd just go in her sleep. Old age has taken it's toll-she has trouble walking without pain, going to the bathroom is painful, even eating isn't much fun any more. While the big dogs were at the kennel she perked up for a few days (she doesn't care much for them) but old age is just relentless and I feel mean keeping her around.

I will take her and hold her as I have all my dogs, so that her last breath is in the arms of someone she knows. I always felt like she liked me as much as she was capable of, but her heart belongs to her first mother-who I hope hears this and will be waiting for her on the other side.

You're breaking my heart. Oh how I know this feeling. I'll be thinking of you both every step of the way. Thanks for being an awesome pet mom.

Poor Miss Bitty, but kudos to you for being able to let her go without pain and with her dignity - so many people can't make that choice when it comes to those they love. Run Free Bitty!

I was just here a few minutes ago before your comments came in for my posts. I've been thinking about you a lot today and I hope the day was gentle.

Bitty was a calculated heartbreak-I knew she was old when I drove 300 miles to fetch her...LOL-that's what pulled on my heartstrings. From the minute we made eye contact, I understood there would be an emotional price and I also chose not to distance myself from her.

I think that people who choose not to love really only hurt themselves, and do so far worse than the pain of loss.

I also believe animals have souls and the soul is eternal. The actual particulars of all that I really waffle on, but I know Bitty and I have probably met before and will meet again and again.

Run free sweet Bitty. Bless you for taking her in and making her final days on earth full of love and happiness.
